Can't Care - Week of January 16, 2017: Sundance Edition
Welcome to this week’s installment of Can’t Care, Moviejawn’s weekly roundup of all the entertainment news we just can’t care about. This week we pick a few Sundance entries we can't wait to get our eyes on.
Rosalie Kicks!, Old Sport
Guys. It's that time of year.
All those Hollywood old sports have suited up in their favorite Canada Goose parkas, put on their ear muffs, and grabbed their tote bags to embark on another cinematic adventure to the Redford Ranch. Sundance.
I always get this wishful feeling this time of year. Pining for that day when I too get to travel to the notorious REDFORD RANCH. One day old sport, one day...I'll be shaking hands and making deals. Until then: I dream. Andddddddd look forward to some exciting pictures hopefully coming to a cinema in the FUTURE.
Thoroughbred
Directed by Cory Finley
This movie. Yes.
I'm intrigued for many reasons: two girls in suburbia striking up an old friendship, realizing the only way to solve their predicaments is MURDER. Interesting, but there are also these reasons...
One: it stars the Black Phillips co-star from The VVITCH. I'm interested to see where her career goes. Two: Anton is in it. Still can't believe this guy left Earth. I'd watch anything with him in at least once. Three: This is the director's feature debut. Sure, why not...I'll give the old sport a chance.
The Polka King
Directed by Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky
Lately, I think it might be time for me to start listening to some POLKA. Just thinking about it kinda makes me think of funnel cakes, carnivals, and FUN. Polka, seems like something an old sport should have on their playlist. Obviously, then I am on board with the The Polka King. OK, guys I'm just gonna lay it out here on the table. Moviejawn secret: I kinda like Jack Black pictures. I know, typical old sport...but what can I say, the guy makes me laugh.
Jaime Davis, The Fixer
A Ghost Story
Directed by David Lowery
Look, I don't know what the fuck A Ghost Story is about, but the images I've seen from it are startlingly beautiful AND they match my current aesthetic of broody, mopey, all grays and whites and silvers with a muted Kylo Ren in the Snow Vibe. Like literally, that's my current mood. Kylo Ren in the motherfucking snow. Without a dang coat or nothing. Whatever. Anyway. The Other Affleck is in this, as THE ghost, which is neat. Like I think he plays AN ACTUAL ghost, so don't get it twisted when you watch this and think "oh Jaime didn't mean a LITERAL ghost, it's not a LITERAL ghost story." No bros, I mean it. LITERAL FUCKING GHOST. And Rooney Mara is the Saddest Woman Alive as his former lover. Double neat.
Person to Person
Directed by Dustin Guy Defa
Person to Person looks like it could get real annoying real quick, with its Michael Cera and its young, hip cast placed firmly in the cool coolness of Manhattan. Oh and it's about youngsters struggling with connection, acceptance, alienation...blah blah blah. Your standard talky movie stuff. I'm probsssss gonna hate it, but it has Abbi Jacobson in it, who is a woman I think I would like to marry someday. And everyone's favorite Bad Dad from Magnolia, Philip Baker Hall, is in this too! So I'm in, I guess!
