Hey Film Pals!

Have you felt that nip in the air? Of heard that rustling of leaves blowing in the breeze? Fall is creeping in. For us here at MJ it is our favorite time of year. Not only is it film fest season, but soon it will be time for Jack O’ Lanterns, spooky flicks and the release of your favorite PRINT movie zine!

For the third issue of 2019, we are taking a look at BAD MOMS in film. Audiences can be hard on moms, for this edition of Moviejawn we are digging into what causes a person to not be a first rate parent. Not all mothers can be a June Cleaver type, but is it fair to call her a bummer mum, if she wasn’t practically perfect in every way, always having the answer or leave the house smelling like freshly baked cookies?

Motherhood can often be a thankless job and sometimes this role is thrust upon a person. It doesn’t come with an instruction manual and despite this, still brings high expectations. Mothers are said to know best, often are looked at under a microscope and seen as the nucleus of a family - the one that can hold it all together. Is this fair? We will take a look at this character of cinema, particularly the ones that have been given a bad rap and question if this was rightfully deserved.
