This is not a list of "the best," it's just a bunch of soundtracks that we think represent some of the most fantastic music ever to accompany the monsters of moviedom.

I often wonder what it was like to see a film like Alien on the screen when it was released.

All the Money in the World is classic Hollywood in all of the best and worst ways. It's taken from a true story, but one that is nearly 50 years old and generally no longer well known to today's movie-going audiences. At its center is an American oil tycoon who is extremely rich and eccentric. It features big stars, one of whom, Kevin Spacey, was replaced after the film was completed, requiring extensive reshoots and editing on a very tight schedule.

Uuuuuuuuuuuugh.
You know when you're dreading writing a review for a movie it can't possibly be a good sign. Alien is my favorite movie of all time, as some of you who know me know very well. That movie is basically perfect, a masterfully executed work of horrific art. A masterpiece of the horror genre. A realistically drawn, well-crafted, certified badass female protagonist. Unparalleled production design. It's an example of film at its utter best, combining every aspect and characteristic to create a cohesive, masterful narrative.

A few weeks ago I was spending an evening with some friends and we were discussing what movie we should watch. We all had decided it should be some kind of horror film as autumn was just around the corner (and now it's here!), and someone asked me what my favorite horror film is. I'm known among friends as someone who has a taste for such things, and my answer was, without hesitation, "Alien." The reaction was a positive one, but one person said, in an argument I've heard before: "That's not a horror film." I proceeded to name a few other favorites (Fright Night, Rosemary's Baby, etc.) and we all moved on with the conversation, without really revisiting Alien or the obviously dissenting opinions. But it's kind of been nagging me ever since, because I really, truly believe Alien to be the purest kind of horror film, in fact, the best horror film of all time. And I feel a desire to defend that view.

The bobbleheaded strumpets depicted in Sofia Coppola's oddly underrated "THE BLING RING" were, amazingly, real, and amazingly, really vapid. Just as vapid as portrayed. Now, not to condone thievery, but what I personally mourn more than the moral degradation of a pack of reckless youth ("tragic", that) is the fact that, in certain instances, they didn't steal enough.
