Surprise, that old sport Clint Eastwood has officially lost his mind. My guess: It was scooped out by aliens with an ice cream scoop and replaced with some type of weird alien technology. That must be it! I’m sure everyone is going to be running out the door to see Sully now, Clint. It is good you used those IMAX cameras on a film no one is going to see. Way to go old sport! The only reason a “person” would see this movie: alien mind control. Best put on your foil helmets guys, they are coming.

Before Captain Fantastic came along, the last superhero your favorite old sport had been excited about was: Captain Planet. Captain Fantastic is the superhero movie that I have been pining for. It is the superhero movie that the world needs. Batman doesn’t matter, Superman can’t care, Spiderman…seriously is he even relevant anymore? Who needs em’ when you have a Noam Chomsky loving, radical, revolutionary superdad played by Viggo Mortensen.

My initial feeling after watching Whip It was: MEH. Then I re-watched Ghost World.

OK. So let’s go back in time for a moment. 2001. Video Stores. You guys remember video stores, right? That time when robots didn’t tell us what to watch, algorithms didn’t exist, and we had the freedom of choice. Well, in 2001 my best friend and I often wound up in a video store on a Friday night. We would wander the aisles looking for movies that often were not part of the mainstream…the more obscure or unusual the box cover the better. This is how we found Punch-Drunk Love, The Boy with Green Hair, and GHOST WORLD.

PWIFT President, Suzanne Landau, believes the only way females can excel in the filmmaking world is by supporting and helping one another. For those that don’t live in Philadelphia you may be surprised by the lack of our alternative movie theaters. Frankly, with there being so few film venues I am a bit embarrassed to admit that my first visit to The Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art (PhilaMOCA) was not until earlier this year when I saw the “I Am Thor” documentary. Old Sport I have to tell ya, this place is neat as pizza. Not only is it located in the Eraserhood (the neighborhood that was inspiration to David Lynch’s 1977 film), PhilaMOCA is housed in a former showroom for tombstones and mausoleums. Dating back to 1865, the historic Finney & Son is now used as a multi-purpose venue for alternative, indie, and underground film, art, and musical performances. On average PhilaMOCA hosts 250+ events a year and aims to provide a low cost space for artists to share their work in Philadelphia.
